lighting questioins

Hey guys,

I have a 65 gallon (3ft wide) display tank. I have a 250 watt metal halide bulb, but just inherited a 400 watt bulb and ballast. My questions are...

1. Can I use the 250 watt in the 400 watt ballast, or will it burn out quickly?

2. If I use the 400 watt bulb and ballast, how high should the bulb be from the water?

Thanks,

Mike

No, only use the same wattage bulb with the same wattage ballast.

I'd say you'd be ok at about 12" to 14", but I'd stay with a 250 watt system 65 gal.

I think the 250W is PLENTY!!! 400 W is big time as well, just more expensive with the energy man!
