Fluorescent shimmer

So I know that everyone wants that shimmer effect as seen with MH lighting but with the low heat of fluorescents. As I understand it, the shimmer comes from a concentrated light source being scattered by the moving surface of the water. So I have this idea. Take a diffuse light source and concentrate it. Steal some crystal pendants from Grandma's chandelier or go to the local new age shop and buy them. Hang those under your fluorescents and with the moving air from the fans that I'm sure you have running, instant shimmer. Worst case scenario, if you got the right kind of crystals, no evil spirits plaguing your reef anymore.
Any thoughts?
