burrowing clams

I think a majority of you all have been to a Florida beach and noticed those small (1/2 long) clams that wash up on the shore with the tide. If you have then you're familiar with how they immediately borrow back into the sand. My question is, is there anything like this in the aquarium industry? It seems like they would be good sand stirrers.

something like this? I am in the process of setting up a 250g tank with 7" DSB, I think I might try these from the above listed web site, just to see if they help.

has anybody used these?

They are coquina clams or Donax variabilis or a related species. They live in the intertidal zone and seem to feed when the swash from a wave returns to the sea. You could not provide these conditions. Try a few but they may die in a few days.

Thinking of native florida species for use in a tank, I have heard of people using mole crabs to keep a deeper sand bed turned up a bit. Don't really know how effective they are, or if their dietary needs are met, but I have considered using them before.

I buy the ones from the grocery store here.

They burrow in the sand very often, so I'm usually careful about how many I put into my tank.

I only keep them there, and take them out when my Angels are ready to bed fed.

Angels, as we all know, are very knit picky eaters.
