Need to remove an Angle

Ok my 165 gal reef (3'x4'x 2'T) is looking great and the fish are happy. I ran into a problem the other day with our elegance coral (huge and happy). I recently put in and additional fish, a Half Black. He's very cool and doing great. So great he's beating up my wife's elegance to the point it has been retracted for over a week. Obviously I did not do enough research on these and it's time to take him back to my LFS for a swap out. After pondering all day I'm trying to come up with a fool proof way to get him out with out destroying my very loaded and heavily rocked reef. This guy is as can be expected very evasive. It would be impossible to net him out with out mass destruction. Has anyone come up with a safe trapping method? I was thinking of an acrylic box with a trap door that would need to be mannualy activated/ closed once the curious fish entered it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Most LFS sell traps made of acrylic.. Also i have successfully used a very small barbless hook and fishing line before. Just bate it with mysis or a small piece of whatever your fish like.

I saw a thread on here about a DIY fish trap made from a 2 liter bottle. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...=diy+fish+trap
Its the last post that describes the soda bottle trap. It looks pretty slick, should probably work with a little patience.

Somebody here made some pretty easy traps with those tupperware containers for cereal with the trapdor in the lid. The trap door was weighted down (closed) with rock on a string or something, and then held open with a string with the container oriented like you are pouring the cereal. Food put inside and let go string when fish goes in.

If one removes the angles, one would be left with a circle, or an elipse.

i recently had to remove a very smart big maroon clown. He wouldnt go near the acrylic trap and could see the net coming from a mile away, so i took a small barbless hook and caught him....it took 5 minutes. The hardest part is finding a bait that will stay on and keeping the hook away from the other hungry fish

Thanks for all the help! I made the soda bottle trap today. Put in some pellets that sink, laid it on the bottom and BAM! "Fish On!" or "IN"

This was too easy... I have about 12 small fish in my reef tank. A monster yellow banded maroon, yellow eyed tang, potters angle, 3 green chromis, fancey bass, golden head goby, red tailed wrass, 2 yellow clown gobies and the Coral killing half black angle. When I set the trap the others came and looked but the halfblack could not let it go. He couldn't resist the new hole to explore. He poked around for several minutes looking at the food inside then decided he had to get it. I had a piece of string tied to the top just behind the entrance. In a matter of minutes he went in and I yanked him out.

Thanks for the help again!

Yep, the 2 liter trap works great. Perfect size for dwarf angels, got my Ebili that way too.
