fern calupera

hey i just picked some of this up for my sump. is it similar to cheato in providing pods and helping control nitrates in my tank? how deep should i keep it in? my sump is under my tank which is BB so would my display lights be enough or should i use opposite light as my tanks light. if so what wattage and how long?
