Lighting confusion
Hello all! I am new to the forum and new to saltwater. I have read several books to include "The Conscientious Aquarist". I have also talked to several LFS employees and I am still a little fuzzy on the lighting I will need for my 150 Gallon tank. I want to have the option for soft or hard coral, invertebrates, and what ever I want. The tank measurements are 48x36x20.
I thought I would get a metal halide with 2x250 watt bulbs, T5, and blue LED lights. I understand from READING (with no experience) that this lighting should be fine up to 24" of depth. While shopping for this light, I was told by the LFS that I would be fine with T5 lighting? So any advice would be great. I thank you in advance for your time. Thank you. |

i think your better off with 2-250 MH with T5's with good reflectors you should be fine with keeping about anything. you could prob. do T5's only as long as they are a good quality and have indivual reflectors but I would be scared of the depth. but you could could also keep the high light demanding things at the top and lower light at the bottom.

Thank you for your advice. I think I will go with the Metal Halide in case I want clams sitting on the bottom. It seems safer Thank you.

your welcome. also I think you will like the shimmer effect you get with MH's. something you won't get with T5's and the reason I went back to MH
