What is that you have wrapped around the powerheads and what is the resoning for the wrapping?

I bought a 75 gallon canopy for my 55 and hung it over the top. I needed the width of a 75 canopy to house the MH reflectors.

You could built a simple box with an open top and bottom out of 1x8s or 1x6s and put cross beams (1x3 or 1x4) across the top to mount the lights. Doesn't get much more simple than that. Then just stain or paint whatever color you want. I'm sure you could build it for under $50.

Probably has been told to wrap them to keep from sucking livestock into the pump.

I made my own canopy for my 55g that was supported by the tank (not hanging). Sat 1 foot off water to minimize heat transfer. Swinging front panel made maintenance/feedings easy.

yes, it is filter media. had recent incident with my anemone. hes healing.

mihamlet- thast mainly why I wanted to build a canopy. My lights are too close to the water and I think it would be a nice way to "finish" the look.

Thanks for the responses
