Storing premixed saltwater
Just wondering if it's O.K. to pre-mix my saltwater and leave it in the 5 gallon bucket for a week or two at a time so I don;t have to worry about mixing it the day or so before i decide to do my change?

O.K. so don't just leave it in the bucket with something over it? Does it have to be air tight sealed?

don't have to be air tight but enough so dust can't get in

Make sure you check the salinity and aerate it for an hour or two before you use the water, some would even say aerate it with a powerhead overnight. You shouldn't have any evaporation in a sealed container, but its a good idea to make sure anyways.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. I have 10 4.4 gallon jugs with screw tops on them. Id like to mix up water and leave it for when needed. I wonder how long it is "good" for premixed like this? Those 10 jugs would last me about a year with my nano..

yeah its a good idea, i think I will only have it sit for about a week prior to the water change though.

I dont know if it is the best way to do it or not but I fill a 30g rubbermaid tub with saltwater then through a heater and power-head in there. This way I always have extra water when needed.

I always keep my Brute trash can filled with SW mix ready to go with powerheads and a heater, never had any problems and is very convenient.

Just keep a heater and a powerhead on it and you'll be fine no longer than a week like one of the other ppl said though

If you keep it in a dark room, you will minimize the chance that algae/diatoms will start growing.

What brand?
I would not store brands that add organics (Reef Crystals and many others) for long without some sort of aeration, while those without, like Instant Ocean, are fine stored without aeration for as long as you want to store them.
