HElp with Skimmer!
Hi everyone!
So I recently upgraded my 42gal to a 130gal DT, with the sump I calculate a total water volume of 156 gallons of water. So, the problem is that I have an octopus nwb150 rated at 150gallons. This is pretty much pushing the limit, its been running in the new tank for 5 weeks now with no problems. Params, N03=0 P04=0 N02=0 Ca=420 KH=8 So far the skimmer has done its job. I also have chaeto in the sump and dose vodka daily. I would like to upgrade the skimmer but dont have much height clearance in the sump... The skimmer needs to fit in 11"wide x 14"lenght x 21"height... Also I need to be in a budget so I was thinking of replacing the original nw pump with the bubble blaster used in the super reef series? So any suggesions, can i replace the pumo with a bubble blaster? Maybe another pump to suggest? Maybe add another recirculating pump? Replace the hole skimmer? which one will fit budget and my sump? Thanks for the help, any posts, tips, suggestions are more than welcome! |

have you thought of running an external skimmer outside the stand that way you dont have to worry about height clearance?

If the skimmer is running well and producing skimmate... why the need to upgrade?

I wouldn't worry about that skimmer not removing enough pollutants out of your tank, maybe upgrade later on.

The skimmer pulls out skimmate 24/7 and the params are in check so the upgrade isnt essential but Im just starting to add to the tank, fishwise I mostlikely add 2 more and corals maybe 2 stonies and some shrooms...
Today list: Kole tang orangeshoulder tang 6line wrasse 2 x ocellaris LTA Xenia Frogspawn Candycane SPS frag no ID Future: diamond goby Maybe mandarin Cleaner Shrimp GreenStarPolip Ricordias Chalice MAybe when all the load is in the time to upgrade will come but just wanted to know alternatives to changing the hole skimmer... Such as replacing pump, adding secondary recirculating pump or something to increase the capacity when the bioload increases... Quote:

I normally do not read all the questions for skimmers in random posts. There is a skimmer q&a forum. THat guy could probably help you. he seems to know a lot about skimmers...

The SRO 2000 int would be a great fit for you but the height is borderline for you. The 150 you have would actually work, its a little small for your load but it will get you by ok for now. just keep up with regular water changes. your skimmer doesnt pull a ton of air but does move a good amount of water.
Height is going to be your issue. You could look at the following the Tunze 9005 swc 160 cone would be nice. maybe even what you have but the 200 version. msx 200 would work. dbl check the height. any of the shorter ones that pull a good amount of air will have to run in 6 to7 inches of water . Not sure what your level is but if you need to put a stand under it then the heigh savings doesnt really help.
