Aqueon vs Marineland
Hope some would weigh in as to the quality comparison of each; I am looking at a standard 75g tank.
Thanks, bigffish |

Their design is about the same, except the marineland comes with a bio-wheel which can come in handy in some situations.
Take a look at the aquaclear filters. They have a better design and can be modified for use in different situations, as a fuge for example. Really need to ask yourself: 1. Is this going to be the sole source of filtration? 2. What type of animals will be kept in the tank? good luck

Thanks for your quick reply, I was refering more about workmanship and quality of the manufacture than anything else; I am talking standard tank, as I will be installing a calpho style ctc overflow and drilling the back of the tank and installing an external o-flow box w/ silent and failsafe standpipes that will supply my sump.
Thanks Again, bigffish |

try searching and asking in the nano section. You should get a lot more feedback as these filters are far more common with smaller systems.
From what I have read, the aquaclears run like champs. I had old whipser filters that ran forever as well.

The OP is asking about aquariums, not filters. They are both about the same. Since you are drilling, I would look into if the side panels are tempered or not. There are some 75Gs (75E??) that are tempered on all sides.

wowsa, goes to show how a few days of looking for power filters for a nano can skew your perspective

I would lean towards Marineland, although I'm a bit biased as my sister in-law builds tanks for them.
I know the side panels on the 75g Marineland are not tempered, not sure on the Aqueon. I know Marineland has decent customer service as well. When my Stealth heater died, I called them and they sent me a replacement, no questions asked.

I prefer Marineland as opposed to Aqueon as well...

as someone whose own and setup both...perfecto tanks are heavier and the silicon build is cleaner...the trim is thicker and overall the centerbrace is sturdier..
All glass tanks (i think) have better quality glass for drilling and viewing, trim is not as bulky, silicon is clear and sometimes will have bubbles. |

The fit and finish of the Marineland tanks- IMHO - is vastly superior. The edge finish work on the ends of the panes is beautiful.
And - you can have ANYTHING done custom w/Marineland. T

I bought an Aqueon 40 Breeder last month. I'm happy with my purchase, but I can definitely see a lot of flaws in the craftsmanship, especially in the silicone. I noticed that there are a lot silicone finger prints near the seals where whomever assembled the tank accidentally touched. Also one of the sides has some air bubbles in the silicone.
Again, I can't complain due to the price I got it for, but I wasn't terribly impressed. |

I have zero complaints about my aqueon tank. I just picked up a 120g and a 40 breeder for a new setup and they both look flawless.

Did you to compare them to comparable marineland tanks?

Was the edge work on both tanks on par? I did not see the edge work on the All-Glass tanks as nice as the Marineland. And - again, you can have Marineland to ANYTHING custom that you want -
That has not been my experience with All-Glass/Aqueon. The current quality of the Marineland line looks as good - or maybe better than what Oceanic used to be in their prime. T

all glass tanks have a very sharp edge work to them, the trim is thinner and does not seem to be the same quality, the corners are pointy with all glass...IMO i think all glass as the best standard glass
Perfecto tanks have a very soft and thick trim work, the trim corners are rounded down a bit but appears very bulky and thick, (sometimes can be trouble with fitting light legs on the sides. |

How can you tell the difference in the glass between the two?

i've drilled alot of both tanks...all glass tanks dont chip as often...i had two 75gals side by side, and it seemed like the all glass tank didn't give any tint at all...the perfecto had a little tint to it....thats just IMO

Interesting to know! I had not seen any difference in the glass itself.

My Perfecto tank looks a lot better than my Aqueon tank. The black silicone on the perfecto was of much higher quality. The trim on the Aqueon had actually peeled away a bit. It almost looks like they PAINTED the black trim, then stuck on packing tape. When pulling the packing tape away, the trim peeled as well. I had to be VERY careful. Not a big deal because the black plastic trim was getting covered with molding...

thanks
Thanks everyone for your input; I always rely somewhat on user reviews when I am getting ready to drop some change, so today I decided to drop some change on a marineland 75g tank, and I do mean change, lfs had the 75's on sale for 99.00 bucks!
