Diamond Watchman Goby (first post)
I bought a Bio cube completely set up from a forum member last week. Iam been off and on in the hobby for years.
Now my? is the Diamond Watchman Goby (that came with it) keeps knocking and biting coral frags in my tank is this normal? Also will he kill anything and hes spiting sand all over the coral and new frags i put in. I feed him a mixer of food twice a day so hes feed good. Should i just get rid of him and give him to someone? Last edited by Kham; 05/30/2010 at 03:28 PM. Reason: pic of tank added |

WELCOME TO RC!!!!
That is normal for the watchman goby! They love spitting sand all over. IMO, your tank is too small for him. I would find him a bigger home. Here is some more info on him: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...220&pcatid=220

I had a Diamond Watchman Goby in my 20g tank for a couple of years. He was my favorite fish. Even though the tank was a little small for him, I do not think he minded because I had a fairly deep sand bed and he ate everthing that I fed him. They have such a personality. The given rule is, once you put one in your tank, you have pretty much hired a full time sand gardener. In other words, forget about getting the sand the way you like because the Diamond Watchman Goby is going to put it the way HE likes. . .
It was a sad day when he passed away. Unfortunately, it was my fault. After cleaning the tank out, my skimmer was going crazy. Because I had to leave, I couldn't leave it plugged in, so I turned off the power to the system. When I got home that night, I forgot about it. The next morning, I noticed nothing was moving in the tank from the powerheads and that my two clownfish were gulping for air. I realized I turned off everything and the tank had no movement for about 16 hours. Killed a shrimp and my goby that day. Luckily, it wasn't more. Anyway, back to your question. You can keep him if you want as long as he is eating prepared foods. Also, move your corals up onto the rock, and they should be fine. Sometimes if you let the goby do his thing, you can move a couple corals back down to the sandbed once the goby has aquacultured it . . .
