New to SW 55 G with "hidden" sump

I bred convict cichlids for a few years but gave up the hobby when I moved. I decided to take on my first SW setup back in December. The first LFS made me purchase The New Marine Aquarium by Michael Paletta (ISBN: 978-1-8900-8752-4) which was incredibly helpful and inspiring.

I purchased a used, acrylic 55 G Hexagon DT with stand and canopy, this way I could be confident drilling into the tank. Next, purchased used 60 G glass tank for sump, new pump for used G3 skimmer, used 400 W MH Light from Hamilton Technology. I bought a new PCX-30 pump for ~1000 GPH. All decisions I was able to make because the book made me think about ideal setup before purchasing anything.

So, the setup: I plumbed the 1.5 inch overflow through the wall into my garage, same with return line and other electrical wiring.

The Sump: 1.5 inch x 2 drops (1 to refugium and RDSB and 1 to skimmer)

The DT: 1.5 inch Sand, 3/4 inch PVC return, drilled for additional flow

LR: Need to purchase, just saw egg crate DIY pictures and will make a column using this method

Chiller???: In San Diego so I dont think I would need it.

Lighting/Bad experience: The 400 W MH is way too hot and melts the acrylic so I am going to try the LEDwholesalers.com product # 510 with 14,000 K and a better PAR value than his other products.

Any and all comments are welcomed. I plan on cycling the tank for 1 month since I am going on vacation for 15 days
