boiling water kills aptasias???

i was wondering if anyone has had experience with doing this...i heard you can inject boiling water in the base of them with a needle and it should kill them...can anyone confirm this and maybe tell me some more about it please...they are over runnin my tank and im tired of buying aptasia-x over and over again just to have them always come back

I've had mixed success. If I act fast and hit the aiptasia just right it works. I'm usually too slow and uncoordinated to get a good kill.

Many will say the Copperband Butterfly fish but many also say its a hit and miss. I suggest you buy some peppermint shrimp few have also stated its a hit and miss but they are a small fraction of the price and probably will survive longer after the aptasia is all gone.
You may need more than 3-4 depending on the size of your tank.

I trust in my Aptasia X. But then again, some people on here say it is hit or miss as well. My tank has had 0 aptasia since killing those b@stards with Apt X

I, for one, have never used anything other than boiling water in a syringe. I have found that method to be 100% effective 100% of the time. Although other methods will work, I feel that adding unneeded chemicals is a poor idea, and although CBB's/pepermint shrimp can work, they don't always. Cooking the little buggers does.

+1 w/Billdogg...I quickly eliminated an outbreak before it got out of control with the boiling water method. I tried pep shrimps but they only robbed my soft corals of food instead of going after the Aptasias.

Injecting them with Liquid Alk or Calcium will also work.

I used to get an empty IV bag (1 liter) siphon SW from the tank into the bag. Place large gage needle on the tip of the administration set and go to town. The best part about hot SW is that it will not change salinity and it can penetrate deep into LR where these little guys like to plant thier foot....

my $0.02

i like to use a large syringe for the larger mass of hot water. The small ones cool down to fast.
