Euro Reef Trouble
I have a Euro Reef Skimmer (not sure of model). When I first put it in it worked great and was a skimming machine. Now it seems like it produces alot of bubbles, but no skim is making it into the cup. It has an airline that I have played with, but I can't seem to figure it out. Does any one know what raising or lowering the air line does? Any way to tell how much water I should have in my sump in order for it to skim like it should? I can post pics once at home as well if needed. Any help is appreciated!

I also have a ER skimmer, the height level of that air line doesn't make any kind of difference so long as its not clogged. Since it is making bubbles there is nothing leading me to believe that its blocked at all. If your bio load isn't too "heavy" and its a good size skimmer on a smaller tank, it may have gone "idle" for a bit. My BEST suggestion would be to clean the collection cup EVERY DAY. That makes a HUGE difference for me. If i let the collection cup get all gunky it won't skim nearly as well as it does when it IS clean. If worse comes to worse you can always throw the skimmer in a 5 gal bucket with a 2 part solution of vinegar and water at a ratio of 1 part vinegar 3 parts water....let the skimmer soak in that solution WHILE ON. Give it a few hours maybe a day rinse everything VERY WELL and shaBAM sparkly clean skimmer lol hope this helps out

On my ER a calcium deposit would be built up in the venturi, restricting air flow over time. I used a appropriately sized drill bit (by hand) to clean it out on occasion. As for the airline, I don't know about raising or lowering it, but mine came with a valve on the tube... I got rid of it, it didn't seem to do anything for me.

My old ER would do that occasionally to. I'd get calcium deposits inside the venturi and have to use a skewer stick to clean it out.

ditto on the skewer here on both RS models in use! I have to clean/empty mine 2x/wk and I microwave a solo cup of hot ro for it to run in after each cleaning.
Pull and let run in a vinegar/ro mixture every 6 mos and I've yet to see any skimmer pull more crud! |
