Air conditioning
Hola... I am looking for a link for installing some sort of soft start for my central air. The reason being is that it knocks off my metal halides and they wont restart without intervention.
Currently when the AC turns on, the 220 compressor and the 110 air handler come on at exactly the same time, causing a slight brown out. Thanks! Note: I just moved the tank breaker to the phase opposite of the 110 air handler. I'll see what that does. |

try leaving the air handler running, you won't have such an amperage load when the AC starts. I am not aware of any sort of "soft start" for condensing units. In fact what you want is a hard start kit installed, it is an extra capacitor that gives the compressor an extra kick in the *** when it starts, pulling less amperage and a faster start time. They are inexpensive but I would have a professional install one unless you really know what you are doing

I think thats exactly what I am looking for, thanks! I did find that when I left the air handler on, the lights stayed on. So far since I switched the breakers, the lights on the tank stayed on.
