to direct feed or not to direct

I recently bought some red and green candy canes and after about a day they were fully open well when I fed my fish (mixture of brine and misses shrimp) both heads extended there sweeper tentacles wile the light was on I'm not sure if the mother colony owner ever feed them directly so I was wondering if I should start or just continue with what he was doing

They don't require it but it is good for them. My candy canes always get fat and happy after some mysis.

I try direct feeding them, but it seems like most of the food just floats right up !
