I've been cooking my tank!!! Can it recover?

I have one of those cheapo stick-on thermometers on the glass of my tank. I thought it was busted b/c it stopped indicating the temperature. So rather than checking it out or buying a more reliable digital thermometer I let it be.

Well turns out my water temp has been way too hot, above 86!! This has been going on for a few weeks! I think this is why the coralline and my softies were losing color when all other water parameters were in spec. I also suspect this is why recently purchased frags didn't last more than a few days, the frogspawn lost its heads and the xenia melted away.

Can my tank recover from this over temp ordeal? I don't notice any stress on my clown or blue tang, and all my snails and pep seem ok.

Any suggestions for a digital thermometer so this won't ever happen again? Thanks.

Make sure you lower the temperature slowly over the next few days to prevent further stress. As for thermometers.....I don't trust anything except a laboratory grade.

I just went through the same issue. My tank hit about 90, but my digital thermometer read 75. I lost everything, lps, sps, most leathers, and a lot of mushrooms. The tank is down to 80 now, it has been about a month and the few pieces I have left still look terrible. The only thing that survived and never looked stressed is my pagoda cup. I wish you luck.

get a reef keeper lite. best $100 you'll spend on equipment. bring temps down slowly. you'll be surprised what lives. I had some SPS recover from a 95* incident
