For Vortech owners question about heat

I have a Vortech MP10ES and the outside dry end seems a bit warm (not unbearable, but definately hot to the touch). I think i"ve found the sweet spot where the vibration and noise is at its most minimal by trying to center the wetside.

I guess the question is, it seems a bit more hotter than an average powerhead. Is this what everyone else is thinking as well?

Bah my MP40w gets HOT to the touch, but i figured a normal powerhead would too if it wasn't submerged.

Its normal for the dry side to be warm. Mine (MP10) stays cool enough though that it isn't any trouble to hold your hand on it. In fact I've found it doubles its purpose for me in winter. Handy dandy $200 hand warmer

PS: samstersam, could I ask you to remove the URL from your sig? I see you don't have anything set as your homepage so you can stick it in there (if you don't know how you can PM me). Just RC policy, no URLs are allowed in sigs, even RC URLs. Thanks .

Also, depending on how long you've had your Vortech they do have a bit of a "break-in" period. Might be a little noisy to start until the wet side gets worn a little bit then it'll quiet down. Mine even at 100% I have to be right next to it to hear anything.

Are there any issues with Vortech on acrylic tanks?

My tank is 3/4" thick and don't want any hazing from heat.

My MP40w definitely gets hot to the touch. And like others said, not unberable, but definitely hot.

I run mp40's in my acrylic tank and havent had a problem yet, i only run mines at 60% tho. I do have a rubber cover on the dry side but dont know if it helps from the heat.

I have 5 in total and noticed that they do seem to run cooler after they've had a chance to break in (and quieter).

I also do not run mine at 100%, but usually at 80-90%. I find that they run better this way, in terms of running quieter, cooler and not blowing sand all over the tank!
