Rock/Sand in Fuge?

Here's my sump:

After I made the sump, I felt I had too much rock in my DT so I put one of the large rocks into the sump. I also had some extra sand laying around so I tossed that in there also. But now I'm wondering if I should remove them from the fuge and maybe try to tumble the chaeto (or at least give it more room to grow). I also just put together a small protein skimmer and would like to have the extra room to work with anyway. Is there any benefit for me to have the rock and sand in the fuge? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

for me sand is a detritus trap, i have some LR for crittters to hide in but really the chaeto does that just fine on its own.

chaeto is a weed and needs no speacial treatment lol, do as you please, is not critical one way or another, i just like a BB fuge so i can clean detritis easily

your chaeto looks good

lol the whole thing is still clean in that pic because it's from when I first set it up. It's not so nice looking anymore. I guess I'll remove the sand and maybe crush up the rocks a bit and figure out something to do with it.

I keep LR in both my sump and fuge but no sand (display is also BB). Easy to suck out any detritus from around the rock.
