Blue Jaw Trigger with Dottyback

I ordered a small Blue Jaw Triggerfish and I should get it in a week or two. I have a 24 gallon that I am planing on keeping it in for a few months until I can finish setting up my 180 gallon. I have a diadem dottyback and a pink skunk clownfish. The dottyback is pretty aggressive and I have seen him attack my clownfish a couple times. Will the triggerfish be bullied by the dottyback or will he be ok?

I would not keep that fish in a 24g for any length of time......wait until the 180 is set up AND cycled!

I'd set up a QT tank and house it in QT until you get the 180 up and running. I wouldn't take the risk of putting it into the 24. That dottyback will likely kill it.

Any chance you can cancel the order?

Can't cancel it. But I can get rid of the dottyback if it gets too aggressive with the trigger.

Whatever you do do not put a blue jaw in a 24 gallon. They cruise the tank constantly he would not make it in that size tanks for months that would be too small for a qt tank. mine would do laps of my 125 all day sorry but this will end very badly for that fish. the dorry back is the least of the problem the blue jaw needs space like a tang does. You can cancel the order or change it to a more appropriate fish especially if you told them where you what kind of a set up you wre putting them in.

The trigger is only an inch, so it should have enough space for a little bit.

well is it is only an inch then your dotty back will torment it. Blue throats are not aggressive and can be very shy the first few weeks. Putting him in with an aggressive tank mate is asking for trouble.

Would you put a 3" shart in a 40g knowing how big they get, "just for a little bit" ?

Just because you can doesn't mean you should

Knowing that I would have a tank completely suitable for its entire life set up in a couple months yes. People do it all the time they are called grow out tanks.

when you say a couple months, does that mean you've got the 180 set up now but are going to give it a couple months to cycle?

I'm starting to get concerned.........

The age old question "why ask when you've already made the decision". You are putting in a inch baby with an aggressive dottyback stupid idea .
