29 or 40
ok im down sizing from a 55 gallon fowlr and i am in between doing a 29 or 40 breeder reef. I wanted to do a 40 breeder but my petcos never have them in stock so I may get a 29 instead. I would just like some advice on what I should do and if I do get a 29 what all could I have in my tank. All I really care about is having a clown pair. Thank You for any help.

For sure the 40 if it is doable. You will quickly appreciate the extra 6 inches of width as son as you put in the first pieces of live rock. Also the 36" will have a much greater selection of lighting options available. It would be worth seeing if they or another store could order you one in imo.

a 40 will give better aquascape options however if all your really wanting is a clownfish pair a 29 will do just fine.

stick with the 40 and check your local craigslist, yard sales, newspaper, etc...you would be surprised by the stuff people give, sell cheap, or throw away.

I have just set up a 29, and feel you would probably be better off with the 40. As said above more lighting options, and an favorable footprint. I did not have the space for the longer tank, and I am very happy with the way my tank is turning out, but in general I feel the 40 would be a better choice.

I have a 29, and I wish I would have researched more and got a 40. I wish I had that extra width, and many more lighting systems/types of lighting are available for a 36" tank.

Get the 40, I have a 29 only because I couldn't get a 40br (for varying reasons). The added water volume will be a big plus too, I am battling temperature swing issues with my 29 in this summer heat.

40b. That's what I have and its perfect. 5gallon weekly water change is easy and gives a 10% water change. Lots of room for corals but cheaper on lighting (36inch) and cleaning the sides.
40b is a great tank. Great tank for a hob skimmer too. |

great news on the 40b. I went in to petco and was just going to get the 29 gallon. And I found out that they actually ordered the 40b for me when I called earlier this week. So now I just have to wait for them to call when my tank gets in

You won't be dissapointed. I've had both (currently setting up my 40) and there's no comparison, IMO.
