Bio filter media vs LR rubble in OHF?
Does anyone recomend switching from bio filter media, like eheim substrat pro, to live rock rubble?
Amonia and nitrite levels are 0, and have been since i got the tank. It didn't cycle when given to me. I think the media i have is for breaking down toxins i don't have. As the tank has already cycled (before me), and nitrates are more of a concern, would LR be better up in the overhead filter? Maybe majority LR rubble with some BF media? Its an all in one tank...i'm trying to make the best of what i have atm. Thanks for any opinions! |

Live rock rubble does the same thing that bio balls does, it traps food and causes more nitrates. Look into either a coil denitrator or doing alot of water changes to reduce your nitrates. Thats probably the hardest part of this hobby.
