Monti Cap and I want acros
My 2.5'' monti cap fell and broke off the plug....so I went to glue it like i did with all my other sps corals, and all is well. The next day a huge chunk of it is white and the rest is red :-(
anyhow....does anyone have any acropora that isn't green (everything in my tank is either pink or green). Im looking into trying purple or blue, but I hear they are a little harder to keep. |

I would slowly go into acros. They are pretty finicky, but very rewarding. I started with a monti cap....it was growing like a weed, so I got a branching acro......it started growing so I went to a bushy...imo......the smaller the polyp, the harder it is to keep. Or it seems that way at least. You start getting in to lokani's.....and setosa.....and they have extremly tiny polyps......and they are hard to keep. best to start off with just a simple frag of a regular every day acro at your lfs. see how it responds and go from there. Just make sure you have a good 30X + turnover in your tank and good lighting.

It sounds a little to me like the lfs guy is just trying to sell you some coral. Take it slow, do your research and start with sps that are easy to maintain and keep growing. From there starting adding more and more pieces, but you should take the time to learn about them before you just start putting them in your tank. I guess I'm a little anal and try to research everything before I buy it. Be careful though, because sps will become a full blown addiction.

I've been researching since 2007. My first sps I got 7 months ago (stylophora and pocillopora) and they both have exploded growth and color under my T5s. I just want to find something that someone else has had good experience with.

Your lfs guy was giving good advice if your new to sps then a stylo or birdsnest are great starting sps. Definately take it slow for a while. Test often and you'll find that water stability and patience are your best friends when reefing in general, and even more so with sps especially acros.
