Vertex IN80 Skimmer overflowing...
Ive had the skimmer up and running for about a month now, so it is well broken in and has been working great. Well i moved it around a little bit yesterday and added a filter sock on my drain line which is in the same part of my sump as the skimmer.
I did adjust anything with the skimmer, just unplugged it and plugged it back in, and now it will not stop overflowing in the collection cup. I have some new saltwater mixing up to do a water change to see if that helps anything. I read somewhere that someone had some 2-part epoxy that he used in his tank that really set off his skimmer, and while adding the filter sock i got some weld-on 16 in my water so that could have been something. The skimmer sits in about 9in of water. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it? Thanks |

Check out the Vertex Skimmer Club thread.
My in280 used to do that all of the time when running the stock pump. I have also heard diferant chemicals will set them off too though. |

If I use epoxy in my tank, it will overflow for a week. Additives can affect the surface tension of the water and create the overflows.
Otherwise my guess is that you have salt creep in the airline. Pull off the venturi and run hot water through the air hose and venturi. You can even force that hot tap water back-forth through the venturi using your mouth. Happens all the time...

Yah i took the skimmer out of the sump, and cleaned and checked everything...Im guessing its has to do with the weld-on glue that got into the water when i acidentlly dropped the piece of acrylic with wet weld on into the sump.
Hopfully with a few water changes it will settle down, otherwise i might look into a new pump. Thanks guys |

Did a water change today, and it seemed to fix the problem, skimmer is back to running perfectly.
