corals out of water
how long can corals be kept out of water safely, if, say, you're doing a 50% water change or something...?

I don't know how long exactly, but I know your fine for a few hours. I have fogotten frags that were left dry several times and never had a problem. I think some people ship frags dry as well.

they can last for a while, but i would every so often get tank water and pour it over them, just to keep the wet.
Note: there will be a lot of sliming when you fill the tank back up, why such a large water change? I think you will be better off doing small 5 gallon water changes daily over the course of a week, 10 gal depending on your tank size. |

I've seen people who drain the tank 50% once a month or so...there was a thread here in the last day or so with a tank packed with SPS. I think the time it takes you to drain the tank and fill it up would be ok.

it wont kill them, corals in wild are out of water for couple hours at a time at low tide.
but they sure do get stressed and if the coral is not doing good, it may die from the stress. |
