single overflow w/ Eheim 1262???

The guy at my LFS just told me a single overflow would not be enough for an Eheim 1262 w/ aprox 5' head, since they're only rated for 300 gph. Would someone who's using one please advise?

I'm assuming you're talking about drains? How big is your drain? I have 1 drain for my 1262 and it does fine.

I use a single overflow with a 1262 and it works great. But it depends on your plumbing on the drain

I also have a single overflow and a 1262. I have a 20 gallon sump, and I was getting a lot of tiny bubbles in the DT. I put a gate valve on the outlet of the pump to slow down the flow a bit, and it got rid of the bubbles. The 1262 is a great pump, and it's easy to install a valve if you want to control the flow. You can still use it if you upgrade to a bigger tank, or if you need the extra flow for other equipment. You could also go with the 1260, which would probably give you a little over 300gph at 5ft. This page has a head loss chart for both pumps under "details". http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewIt...28900%20gph%29

I have a single lifereef overflow, and found that the 1260 is a much better match for my setup. It's a bit quieter, and I don't need that much downflow through the sump.

I was misadvised into buying a Mag 18, which was too much for my single overflow to handle. I want an Eheim 1262, but didn't want to make another mistake. Thanks for all the info.

An Eheim 1262 can do 700 GPH+ after headloss which is more than many single overflows can handle. I would say its even big for a Lifereef unless the flow is throttled back.

Soooo the question is: Is the 1250 Eheim I'm currently using w/3 Korallias for water movement in DT sufficient for turning over aprox 120 gallon system? I have a separate PH that moves water from sump into fuge which then gravity flows into the DT as well - don't know GPH, but very slow.

1250 is in the small side. I would use a 1260. What kind of overflow?
