Question Putting Together a 75g Reef Tank and Need Advise

I just picked up a 75 gallon tank with a built in overflow, and the guy gave me a 20 gal long tank with built in dividers for a refugium. I just got all the pluming done, but I still need a return pump, and power heads for circulation, which i know nothing about.

What's a good pump for my tank?
-75gal main w/ 1 1/4" durso-standpipe
-20gal long sump w/ 3/4'' return

What all is needed for adequate water circulation?

and lastly, Where should I put my AquaC Remora PS? (tank, sump, specific spot?)

Thanks for any help guys!

Michael

With my 75 I had a Mag 9.5. It worked really well. As for the skimmer, if you have a sump put it in there. Having the tank with as little equip as possible looks awesome.

Just in case you have not purchased the skimmer yet, I wouldn't get the aqua c. I had a turbo flotor multi sl on mine and it did an adequate job, and it wasn't too much.

look into the eheim 1262, pretty quite pump and energy efficient. as for water circulation, the cheaper alternative would be korila (sp) and the expensive stuff will be vortec MPs.

Congrats on the new setup. I too have a 75gal and use two Koralia 3s, one on each side. To me, it is more than enough circulation.

You should post a pic of your setup up so far and or start a build log. Would be cool to see.

Mag 9.5 with a ball valve to throttle back flow a little and 2 Koralia 3's or Evo 1050s would be just about right.

Eheim 1260-1262 would be fine. I'd ditch the Remora...Good for smaller tanks GL

Both good answers / Mag 7 or 9.5 or the eheim. As far as powerheads, if you want to go cheap I use modded maxijet 1200's. Can get the maxijets for like $29 or so maybe cheaper then the mod is like 11 bux. Or can go the korelia route. Either way you will be happy.

Go with Koralias from amazon.com. K3's are $32 with free shipping...

Can't be beat.

Go with K4's on a 75. K3's are too weak IMO. You might want to look at Koralia's new evo powerheads. K1050 or K1400.

My return is a QO4000. I had a Mag 9.5 but it died. I decided to get the QO because it uses about half the watts and generates less heat about 2 degrees. I had a heat issue in my tank so the QO was the pump for my tank.

For other equpment look at my sig.
