EcoXotic stunner strips?
I'm looking at doing a supplementing LED setup, and was planning on current powerbrites for the length of my tank. But then just recently ecoXotic came out with a new line of LED's, and their stunner strips look like exactly what I need. Has anyone heard anything as to how well these work? I see they have both an actinic and a UV model. I wonder how the UV would look. Input and knowledge are appreciated!

LFS has a nano set up with their lights with sps, clams, softies, polyps in the zones as they recommend. The color and shimmer and ABSENCE of heat made for an attractive tank.
Dr F/S is backordered on them. |

I am intrested in some LED supplemental lighting and these look like a nice alternative to the powerbrites. Anyone else have any experience with these and how powerful / how they look?
I either wanted to try this or a diy high powered set up but im not the best diy guy round here . |

i was at a local frag swap yesterday and they had the blue panorama strip as a raffle prize that I won. ecoxotic had a rep there with some of the products for demo. Some were on a table and some were over a reef. I was very impressed with the brightness, penetration and lack of heat. according to the rep if you have the right setup you can replicate the par and lux values of a 400watt MH. I was so impressed that i used my last $100 to pick up a 8000k white panorama to go with the blue that i won to give it a try. After the 2.5 hour drive home i couldnt wait to see how they looked over my solana 34g. I turned off the 150 MH with a 14k phoenix bulb and help the 8000k strip over and i couldnt believe how close the brightness was. It was a little on the white side compared to the phoenix but i didnt set up the blue strip side by side with the white. I then tried just the blue one. Once again amazed with the brightness along with the glowing of all the zoas and polyps on my sps. Today im going to rig up a quick PVC rack and place both over the tank. Ill take pics and post them later today or tomorrow

I just purchased a couple of Stunner strips for my 75. I am looking for something to make some colors really pop. Should be here tomorrow or Tuesday. I will share my thoughts once they arrive.
tbundy: I am assuming that was the fragswap at TPP? I wanted to go but had prior commitments. Was there a huge turnout? |

I purchased a set of these from the frag swap mentioned above. I was so impressed with them for their brightness (direct light) I made an impulse decision and bought them. I have to say that I was a little underwhelmed by it's actual in use performance. Let me qualify my opinion.
There was an offer that if you made a purchase of any ecoxotic item, you'd get an additional stunner strip of your choice free. So I bought 2 of the 8K stunner strips (6W) for the purpose of trying to maintain coral in an invert only QT which is a 20L. The free two would be mailed later. When I got home I immediately connected and placed the two strips over one section of the QT. The light was so dim over this one section, I felt that even with 4 of the 8K's there was no way anything but low/no light corals could survive. I may have to re-evaluate that last statement though b/c I then placed them in a 12g JBJ nanocube that I've been running for months with no lights and it seemed to a fitting replacement the stock lighting quite nicely. It even fit in the canopy nicely with the included clips. The two free strips (Actinics) came later in the week and I temporarily installed them over my 210 which they were originally purchased for. The 2 actinics alone did give an impressive deepwater blue glow to the tank, but once I turned on one 250W MH, I couldn't see any blue enhancement. So it wouldn't do me any good in that capacity which was the original reason I bought them. I also connected the two 8K's (they connect in series) just to see what it looked like on the 210 and it barely lit it. Just not enough light penetration. So disappointingly, I packaged them all back up to prepare to return them. I didn't try all 4 of them on the smaller tanks but would be willing to and post some picks after this weekend before I return them if someone else doesn't first. Overall, I think they are good lights for small tanks. But if you really want to light a tank you have to go for a few of the 12W strips on a shallow tank or the retro setup that allows you to install the strips.
