Live Rock

Is it ok to buy used live rock off craigslist? Or should I get it from the store..??

It absolutely is okay to buy from Craigslist - probably quite a bit cheaper too. It would be good to know if the seller currently has the LR in water, a tank, etc... or if its been sitting out dry.

That's a loaded question. There are many variables.

Theoretically, it should be fine, if the person has taken care of it and not exposed it to bad things, like hair algae, aiptasia, flatworms, etc.

If it's just rock from out of his tank, you might not want to just dump it in. You might want to cure it for a while and watch it to make sure nothing crazy pops out.

I dumped in a ton of live rock from a guy's tank that hadn't been taken care of. It took months to finally pull all of the phosphates out of the rock and exterminate the bryopsis and hair algae.

And if the rock's been sitting out, it's definitely not live rock.

It would help if you knew what situation the rock was coming from.

Make sure it hasn't been treated with copper though. You should be fine. Hopefuly they are honest
