aquired base rock from a FW tank. How to prepare for SW?

got about 50 lbs of base rock from a person who had them in a FW tank. The rock is all dry now, but some of it is brown. There is no smell to the rock. What do I do to prepare this base rock for my SW tank? do I soak them in bleach water and then a FW bath??

I would soak them in RODI water for a few days and then test for Nitrate and Phosphate. If the test show either of these in more than trace amounts get rid of that water and repeat. When the tests no longer show positive I would do once more in Salt water before adding to a tank.

I would also check for copper, if there is any trace, don't use it, it will take forever to leach out.

Also - what kind of rock is it? Lots of times FW rock is quartz, granite or slate, none of wich would really work too well for a SW tank.

It is argonite rock. Identical to the rock I have now. I will start the soak tonite.

So you don't think a bleach water dip
is necessary?
