Do i need a HOB filter

I was running a little 5-15 filter with phosguard and then a carbon filter on my 29 gallon but then it broke. Do i even need a filter? I will end up getting another one mabye in like a month if i need it. I have about half and half live rock and base rock and then live sand. The base rock has been in there for about two months. Is it a bad idea not to have one? Im using a biocube skimmer and then a maxi jet 1200 for flow.

do you have a sump? if not than I would say its nice to have a hob to put your chemicals in. but I wont say yes or no. you just wont have any way of getting water to run through the carbon or phosgaurd. which is a big help IMO. I have a sump and still run one in the sump just to have a place to put things like that. comes in handy.

You can wait two YEARS to get one if you have to. They're nice to have but not essential.

no, but it just collects and looks disgusting, plus it could add nitrates.

It also can result in lower oxygen levels in the water, by forming a barrier between the water and the air. Water is oxygenated by simple contact with air, and a layer of oily scum reduces the contact.

Just tried and it looks like it didnt pick up anything. I bought a used mellenuim 2000 for like 5 bucks, but came home and found out that the rotar was broke. I am also wondering if i am missing any other parts to it , and how loud it is (my tank is in my room). I might just save my money for a new aqua-clear 30.
