how my addiction starts.
hey guys just wanted to introduce my self
I started keeping fish since I was 14, I really wanted a pet, but i couldn't get a dog a cat or anything with fur because my mom is apparently "Allergic" found out it was just dogs... Anyways cutting the crap can't get a dog anything with fur? what you get a frog This is guy passed away last year had him for 3 1/2 year, I know I did something wrong it was pretty much neglected since keeping on school, work and reef tank. I keep him in a little 5 gallon (a couple months after bought him a 30"lx12H"x12W" critter cage) and he was lonely I bought a couple of guppies, (didn't work out) moving on I decided to purchase a BIG tank it was a big move on with me Started my first planted tank 37 gallon as I remember cost me a fortune tons of them mowing lawn ( I was only 14) skipping for 3 months wanted to buy a guitar sold the tank made more cash actually than I would have though for the tank 100$ bought a little crappy guitar/ and enough cash to set up a 20 gallon, decided to make it a little different so BRACKISH! puffers and dragons I didn't know then that a friend of mine is actually into reef tank (a hell of a nice tank too) he told me just to start a reef but I keep hesitating because i know I'm gonna spend a whole load of money not really up for that. A year of being called a noob because I keep brackish tank and freshwater and "a Stupid frog" I Sold the brackish and started my FIRST SALT WATER TANK 6 gallon 2 months went on too Small... I though the smaller the tank the cheaper THEN! 10 gallon the most expensive is the ligthing.. cost me 100 bucks got it burned me but whatever I got a job then. 10 months fish are growing, GOD WHEN does it stop. 25Gallon IM TOO MYSELF NO WAY I AM DONE THIS IS IT MY LAST TANK (it did last me sometime) It never stop already started a bigger thank.. mistake ALWAYS START BIG! And... looking at this site is the biggest mistake... made the addiction worst. Thanks for looking sorry if its long. |

I know the feeling, I started with a small 20g a couple months ago....then went to two 20g tanks (one FOWLR and the other is Reef Only). Afterwards I looked at my Girlfriend and said, "We're getting a 55g tank!" And BOOM! It happened! Both our 20g tanks are now in the 55g!

I understand completely...I'll admit I'm a newb in marine...I did just read through about 4 different large, detailed books dealing with marine reef invertebrate tanks, which really is what I would suggest to any fellow marine newb, but I fell into the aquarium addiction pretty hard too.
When I was 16 I was given a 55...then I got three 10s, two 40s (all freshwater), and built a koi pond in my grandfather's backyard. I then moved out of the house...got rid of everything but the 55, and kept a betta as the sole occupant of the 55 for about 3-4 years...I was a bit distracted at that point. Once my betta died, I decided to really get back into it. That was a year and a half ago or so. Now I have a 55 with a 10" Oscar, a 55 with a red-eared slider (turtle), a 55 with a breeding pair of bristlenose plecos, cories, and platies, a 10 red cherry shrimp breeding set-up, a 20 brackish w/ a figure eight puffer, and my newest, a 30 gallon Oceanic Cube that has been cycling with live rock for about 2 months now, gonna add a watchman goby/pistol shrimp, and a gold stripe maroon clownfish. Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble on so long, but this is a good idea for a thread. I liked hearing your story bleedfire, and i thought I'd share my story. BTW, I now work at the LFS...addicted |

Go big or go.........well just go big. I started with a 55, then currently working on a 120, but then had to have a 29 for QT, then another 29 QT, well why not a 3rd 29QT. Hey look a 40 breeder, don't have one of those yet lol
Welcome to the addiction and make sure you scratch it often.

Welcome. I have only been in saltwater myself for about a year and a half. I started with those $0.20 feeder fish, then moved to tropical fish, cichlids, and now saltwater. I guess maybe sharks next?
