Need help on bulb selection! Don't want to cook my livestock!
Have 8x54w 48" bulbs T5 HO. Online I bought 5 actinic 3-10000k. I am just using 5 bulbs right now. 4 actinic and 1 10000k. Should I buy more aqua blue? Am going to fish store today to get some replacements. The store I got the bulbs from only had actinic and 10000k. So what should I get. Will not be be running all 8 right now. I think 5 is more than enough. My xenia bleached already from it. Any suggestions?

I run a combo of the ATI Blue+, GE 6500k, and Fiji purple that the grim reefer suggests over in his thread. Guess it depends what kind of look you are going for.

I run 2 ATI blue+ 1 Aqua Blue Special and a Midday. It makes a great white blue. If your concerned about bleaching corals you can use screening to defuse the light over a period of weeks.

Fixture is about 7 inches above the tank. I will see what they have. I don't have ATI. I got coralife bulbs. Maybe they have an aqua blue. I got 8 for $93 and couldn't pass up the deal.

Sounds like your options are rather limited then. When it's time to replace them, check out ReefGeek for some bulbs, there are a lot more spectrum choices.

I only buy bulbs from reefgeek. Were the bulbs new when you got a great deal on them?

I would run this set up in my 8 bulb fixture.
2-ATI actinic 2-ATI actinic+ (black light color bulb) 2-ATI midday for growth for the corals(yellow looking bulb) 1-Fiji purple 1-ATI aqua blue (white color bulb) |
