Plan for the worst, I diddnt.

Whell, when IT hits the fan it hits hard. My 75 gallon Anemone tank crashed. Sunday night things started to not look good, anemones started to shrink up, at first i payed it no mind. Monday i went to work, at lunch i came home to a very unhappy tank with a water leak. So first i patched the leak and looked at the tank every one was not happy, so i tested the water and OMG!! Ammonia was a 4.0 so i grabbed the first bucket i could and mixed up some water, and told the wife to give it some time and start removing the live stock. So i go back to work, at 6 pm i come home and the live stock just came out, looking very bad. Also my patch job did not hold on the pipe so i just emptied the tank and ripped it apart. I redid every thing in 4 hours and did a rush job and filled the tank so i could put every one back in.

So to keep a long story short here are some of my mistakes.

1 **** poor manit of my plumbing

2 no pre made water even for top off

3 Just flat out rushing everything

4 not having a plan for when IT hits the fan.

I know their is more but take it from me think everything out and have a plan, i am not in the clear because now i have 85 gallons of new water that is more then likely going to cycle.

The only losses at the moment is a pep shrimp and my 6 line wrasse,

I had a Sebae anemone die thats what tanked the tank.

thanks for reading and please dont do what i did.

Sorry to hear about that, on the good side, as long as you got the salt mixed good and to the right sg you should be ok. The bacteria you need is in your rock/sand/etc in your tank and not the water. Just keep and eye on everything else in the tank. Good luck with it and hope everything looks up.

I dont have a sand bed right now, the Sebae anemone died due to my diamond goby, covered him up and then moved a rock over him. so the sand bed is gone due to that reason untill i can clean and sift out all the hidden stuff.

I will keep posting on the recovery of the tank as time go's on.

Yeah, you really have to be ahead of the curve so that you can react to emergencies in this hobby. Most of the animals that we keep are delicate/sensitive enough that even small changes or failures can have devastating consequences. At a minimum, I'd have a 20G tank with enough water ready to fill it at least halfway and provisions to quickly make more. Having enough water to be able to fill a hospital tank completely would be best but half the volume being fresh saltwater will help dilute the bad stuff in your tank water by half and if you can make more and do some quick water changes to that you can remove even more bad stuff.

Remember...expect the worst and hope for the best.

Mike

Just a quick update, the tank went threw a cycle and is recovering nicely, my carpet anemone got settled back in and today he is stretched out and my female clown is loving life.

The only bad thing is that now i have to direct feed my goby due to the sand bed was replaced, no food but he loves the sinking pellets.

when i took out my protein skimmer due to me having to ship it back to the store. my ammonia went to 4.0. my rbta lost all it's tentacled from the stress of the high ammonia. as soon as i fixed my parameters the anemone is right back to being happy. it just does not have any tentacles. the anemone looks so weird without tentacles. i hate it. hopefuly soon they will grow back. i think i just left the tank with high ammonia for too long. main reason becaue i didn't have any saltwater made. and with my fiance working a lot of hours, he's the one that does the water changes. he couldn't do a water change for a couple of days. that's defenitely a lesson to learn have pre made water ready just in case you need to do a emergency water change
