The usual configurations are:
Drain into optional filter socks & skimmer section>refugium section>return section or
Drain split with one drain into skimmer section>return section

He has lots of great sump building info. Im about to build one in a 40b tank. It will go Skimmer>Sump>return. Im using 11" tall baffles and will have to raise the skimmer up 2"

I am setting up my sump using 3 tanks; 20g, 33g and 50g. My display tank drains to my 20g which has 45 degree baffles to slow down the water and acts like a detritus trap. The 20g also has my carbon reactor which drains to my 50g tank. The 20g tank is connected to my 50g with 2 1" pvc. The 50g tank has 3 section. The first section has my reactor with biopellets and my phosphate reactor. The second section is for my skimmer. The 3rd is my return pump to my display tank. Also, in the 50g, i have an ac70 that pushes water to my 33g tank which is my DSB/Refugium. The 33g tank then drains back to my 20g tank.

I stole my design from Melv's Reef. I have made a few changes sinces the original drawing. I moved the output of the fuge to the live rock chamber after the skimmer. Also, I had to add a reinforcement piece to the return end (left side) of the fuge. It truned out to be a good addition. I got a secondary bubble trap out of it and was able to add a support structure that effectivly gave me a forced carbon filter instead of a passive one.

I will post a picture once everything is setup. So far, i only have the 20g and 50g connected. It will probably be a week or 2 before I have all of it hooked up to my display tank.

Thanks guys. This is more inline on what I was inquiring about when I posted the thread. Good ideas for me, and a chance for all of you to show off your sumps. Thanks again.
