Setting up Refugium - Mud Help
Which type of mud should I use? Walt Smith's Refugium Fiji Mud?
EcoSystem Miracle Mud? Refugium Mineral Mud? Not sure which type to use. A friend of mine uses live sand and live rock in his, but LFS has said mud is better. Any suggestions? |

A friend of mine used EcoSystem Miracle Mud and said within hours his corals were extended and looking better then they ever have. But I have no personal experience with the stuff, just heard great things about it!

If you haven't already purchased the mud, I would skip it all together. Most peoples impressions are that its overpriced...well mud that doesn't really do much besides make a mess. You'd be better off investing in live rock rubble and cheato. Any LFS is going to try and sell the mud, because they make more $$$ on it.

Mud can be useful if you are wanting to grow seagrasses. Otherwise, I also think it is generally overpriced and unneeded.

You could go with a DSB instead with some cheato. I thought about the mud too, but to expensive in MH opinion.

FWIW a dsb, live rock rubble and chaeto is a much better option than the mud. skip the mud.

I just have liverock rubble and chaeto in my fuge. No sand or mud. Still deciding on the next tank/sump/fuge config. Still unsure if I am going to bother with a DSB.
I may set up a mangrove tank on the side.. mud may be an option for that. But, as others said. It is pricey stuff and the manufacturers typically suggest changing sections of the mud out every so often to replenish it. |

So I get a consensus of mud being not worth the money.

i'd X the mud as well. not worth it, mostly good if u want a planted garden fuge with seagrass.
