Plumbing Question #1 - Why capped tees on full siphon drains?

Looking at this design:

Why are the full siphon drains tees with caps instead of a 90 elbow? The only reason I can think of is so you can open the top to scrub out the piping -- is there any other reason?

Thanks much,

-Ian

That is the only reason, other than tees being used. Over time, the pipes will become encrusted with all manner of biota, and crud which will reduce the drain lines performance. Cleaning out the plumbing is and should be a regular part of your aquarium maintenance. Easier to pop a cap, to scrub it out, than disassembling the plumbing. Also easier to unplug a drain by popping a cap, than disassembling. Use an adapter at the top, and a sealed (with teflon paste) threaded cap. Ease of maintenance means you will actually do it.
