Tank size

Other than the obvious (size, money involved) what are the advantages/disadvantages of say 125gallon vs. 230 gallon?

The 125gallon is only 18 inches deep (back to front depth). For this reason, the 120gallon is a preferred size (24" deep, lots of floor space to play with), and a 210gallon is also good.

I couldn't find information on a standard 230 - what dimensions are you dealing with?

If you have it upstairs, you may want to consider the overall weight.

It is usually said, the more volume you have, the more stable the parameters.

It may take twice as long to complete routine maintenance such as a water change.

I agree. the disadvantage to having a bigger tank is having to reinforce the floor. we can't get more than 150 gal because of this.

The advantage is definitely stability, it's like that with any setup. good luck with the decision

How long are your arms?

I am constantly fiddling with the tank, the rocks, the substrate. The larger the tank, the harder to reach every corner.

However...............you are always gonna wish you can go bigger. If your budget and floor can take it, get the bigger tank.

i had a 180 gallon and my only issue was reaching things,i always had to use a small ladder to access parts of the tank, that being said ,i would go back to it in a heartbeat!

A 180 gal, 72x24x24, I believe is the best compromise. Not too tall so you can get T5's rather then MH, not too deep so you can still reach all the way to the back. Plus, you'd have a deep enough cabinet to hide more equipment.
