Chiller question 1/10hp aqua euro mighty pro
I just got this chiller second hand. Seems to be functioning. My tank is usually around 81/82 during the day with the AC running in the house. I set the chiller to 78 degrees. The chiller turns on for two minutes and a bunch of heat comes out the back.. working normally it seems. Then it shuts off for three or four minutes. then it comes back on. over and over. doing this it barely moves the temperature.
is it normal to cycle like this? it seems like it would cool WAAAY more if it ran constantly. my tank is a little oversized for the chiller, but i figured it could move it down 2-3 degrees since thats all i need(its 110 gallons). Thanks! Last edited by Ninjapotamus; 09/08/2010 at 10:13 PM. |

I have a Aqua Euro 1/3 hp on my 90g. It cycles on 2 or 3 times am hour for about 1 min. I have it set for 76, it turns on at 78. Mine is oversized for my tank.
If you have yours set for 78 but the water temp is 81/82, either your chiller is not able to keep up because it is under sized or it is not working properly. Could be a defective temp probe. Have you tried to run it into a 5g bucket to see if it is cooling at all? |

I set it in a bucket of 3 gallons and told it to chill it to 65degrees from rougly 75 starting temp. It does the same thing. Fires up, moves it 1 or 2 degrees... stops for 3-5 minutes. Fires back up. moves it another 1-2 degrees. Takes about an hour to move a small bucket 10 degrees. for the 1-2 minutes that it does run it takes a LOT of heat out of the water. I can feel it coming out the back. I have the feeling that if it ran for longer peroids of time without cycling it would work great on my main tank. As it is right now it spends way more time in its off cycle than on.
As for the temp probe, the temp on the front is accurate to my tank temperature. Is this not the controlling probe? When you run yours in a bucket and tell it to lower the temp, does it run constantly until it acheives the proper temp? Thanks for the reply. |

Most of the time when you set the chiller temp 76 the chiller will run until the search up to 76 degree. It will turn on when the temp of your tank is high and off at 76.

Thank you for the replies. Turns out the internal fan is broken. The unit was shutting off due to heat. Added a box fan and now it runs constantly without cycling.
