salinity dropped in mix after using hard salt

Ok so i go to mix my water for a eater change and i open the lid for my salt and it wasn't rock hard but it was hard enough that I had to use a plastic rod to break it back up. So I add the rebroken up salt to my tub of mix water and after awhile i check salinity and it is 1.024. Let it mix for 2 night check it this morning and it is now 1.012. I did nothing diff than any other time I mix my water. Can any one tell me if I may have to throw out the rest of this salt or use more to bring salinity up?

the only thing I can guess is when you checked it the first time the salt wasn't totally disolved or mixed up good enough. the hard salt would have nothing to do with it. so to bring it up just use more salt.

When old salt gets hard, the calcium will crystallize and not be usable to your corals. it is hard to tell if your salt got hard enough for that to happen, but I would recommend checking your calcium if you are keeping hard corals.
