Has anyone used DT's for starting their own phytoplankton culture
I have everything I need to set up the culture (not that it took a whole lot) but I was wondering if anyone else had started one with DT's instead of getting the culture from Florida Aqua Farms. I know buying the petrie dish is probably a great deal better but I have almost an entire bottle of DT's I would like to try to first. If you have had ANY success let me know.
Thanks, Josh |

I've heard of people having success with DTs. The only problem with it is that you start out with the three cultures that they have, but you will only end up with one after a short while, most likely the nannochlorpsis. I assume that you have the proper fertilizer for phyto?

Well my culture has actually turned out to be growing. The first couple of days since I posted this it was a dingy yellow color but a little miracle glow and 24 HRS a day of light and Voila' we have water that is turning a very nice shade of green. I actually just ordered some starter cultures from FAF and now im not sure I will need them. Good thing they have a long shelf life. LOL

The yellowish color was the mixture. The green is likely due to the nano taking over. Hopefully you also ordered some micro grow from FAF since the miracle grow doesn't result in very nutritious phyto. Also, what starter cultures did you order?
