The other isopods dont really look anything like these. The big black eyes are pretty much a dead give away, the tail or lack of is another dead give away. If they could roll up in a ball they would not be cirolanid isopods but thats not going to be the case with these IMO.

I didn't really poke it. I sucked it up with a medicine dropper. It sat on my finger for about 20 seconds and it didn't dig into me. I'm trying a test tonight with a piece of nori and a piece of clam to see which one they eat. If clam, we know it's bad, if nori it could be a scud. It was so small, I had a hard time seeing it's apendages. I'll poke and smoosh them tonight.

So, I'm going to set my trap tonight because I'm still pretty sure they are bad isopods. Want to get them out before they get large enough to reproduce.

Joining Sugar Magnolia to make a couple of points: 1. you should not have fish or even snails in a tank during a cycle. Don't take that fish store's advice on this point. 2. You need a quarantine tank anyway. Get a 20g tank and keep it bare, no rock, plain carbon-floss filter, a refractometer, and some nitrate test strips. Those fish and your inverts can live in there while you sort the tank out. 3: this is an article on dealing with cirolanids: hope it helps. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/bp/index.php

I think I posted a link to it earlier in the thread. How did you try to trap them?? There is a key to traping them with the bottle method that is detailed in the link I posted earlier in this thread. Interceptor is kind of a pain in the rear because you actually need a prescription to get it and if you call your local vet you can just explain the situation and they should help you out. Its going to cost about 80.00 to get enough of it. I just started my 150 back up today after nuking the tank last week, I had alot of life on my rock, coral, a couple of fish and so on but honestly these things are so bad that I figured I better take care of it now before I have to much money in livestock and I lost it all.

You know, I hate to say this, but a cup of bleach is about $.25. If the system is brand new I'd consider scrapping it and starting over.

From that image, it does not appear to be a cirolanid isopod due to the tail appendages and lack of huge black eyes.

i had these guys come in on my live rock on my first tank. Killed all but one of my fish before i realized what was going on. I literally pulled the last fish and let the tank run for about six months before i went and bought a cheap fish to put in there to test. That fish lived and I never saw them again. I traced my back to some florida live rock i bought.
