diatom help
i have had my tank running for 7 weeks now and its a 55 gallon i was dlmost done with my cycle and put dead rock into my tank and sent my tank into another cycle. with my first cycle i never had a diatom bloom what happened i have fish in there and a clean up crew. i have brown stuff growing on my tank walls and in my skimmer do i clean that or is it diatom bloom? if not how or what do i need to do to get it going?

need a picture but if you put dead rock which is rock with dead organisms in there then yes you have just initiated another cycle. You will be lucky if your fish and inverts survive. As for the brown stuff, I would need to see a picture to clearly identify. Could be diatom or something worse. If it is diatoms, it will go away on its own as long as you provide good flow.

there may have been some nutrients in the dead rock you put in
