tropic eden substrate
I was wondering what everyone's thought on this substrate was. I was considering live sand but now that I compare the prices, you get more for your money with the tropic eden. I was looking to maybe mix the miniflakes and the reeflakes together for a nice look. should i even consider adding one bag of live sand?

I use it in my 220g tank and love it. It is a shallow bed, about 1" thick. Because of the particle size, the pods and such can REALLY get all in it. I have never been a fan of fine sand unless you are trying to use a DSB for nitrification.
So again, no problems at all. |

Well IMO I love the Reef Flakes for 2 reasons. 1) I have strong flow and it doesnt blow around & 2) I just like the looks for aesthetics only. I have also noticed mythalogical sized pods playing around at night (They seem to love it!) If you want to mix it up I might recommend half reef flakes and half premium aquatics house sand ($2 a pound) which is loaded with pods. P.a. is my lfs. thats why I say this LOL!

I use this sand. It's very clean and consistent. You wouldn't find a better sand. I use 50/50 Reeflakes and Miniflakes for .5" sand bed. I will probably go Reeflakes 100% next time.

I use the ReefFlakes in a shallow bed. I love this sand. Best on the market and you cant beat the price either. Great sand, great price! Very clean right out of the bag, very minimal rinsing needed.

I use reef flakes and like it a lot. it looks great and it washes clean very quickly when you prewash.
i tried special grade and washed for DAYS and still had cloudy water. tossed that and got more reef flakes. |
