I was thinking of these 3 small fish for my year old soft coral tank?

A Purple dottyback, Sixline Wrasse, & A Midas Blenny? ....How does this sound? ....Or if you have any other ideas, I would love to hear them!

What size tank? The midas blenny will get 5"+ and likes to swim more than most blennies. It will be a fairly aggressive tank but those 3 fish should stand up together well.

Edit: You will at least want a screen top as all are fairly well known to jump.

Sorry...forgot to put the tank size.29 gal., so I might scratch the blenny? How about a Neon gobie? I just want a few small fish with a variety in colour. I just don't want any more clowns as I have many in my other tanks. I'm in no hurry so I'll be adding them one by one.

I'd stay away from that purple dottyback, mine killed several fish.

Purple dottybacks are the meanest fish in the whole ocean.
Before I gave away mine, it kept bullying all the fish in my 70 gallon tank - even the bigger fishes.

Damn! LOL....Well no Dotty then. What about a sixline, a r.gramma and the neon gobie?.....or any other ideas of three small fish that may live in harmony? I just want a few fish to spice up my sweet 29 gal. (IMO) LOL! Thanks for the advice BTW about the mean dottybacks!

I'd be worried about that neon goby with a sixline when he grows to full size. But either way, it isn't bad. Sixline would go in last. How about a clown goby instead of the sixline?

What about a clown goby? they stay small 1 and 3/4". they come in green, yellow, brown and black from what I've seen. My fav is the green one.

Purple firefish are also really pretty. still gotta be careful of them jumping though.

Ya I suppose I could go that route? I just feel silly keeping a tank stocked full of coral with no fish? I just can't decide what fish to put in it?

You could go for three bad boys that all can take care of themselves - a 6 line wrasse, a damsel and a dottyback, though the tank's maybe not big enough for those fireworks...

Or maybe some peaceable mix like a firefish, a blenny (one of the smaller ones maybe - I've just got myself a tail spot blenny) and a clown (perc or ocellaris maybe)?

Whichever way, kudos for taking things slowly! I can't believe you've had a tank for a year and are only now thinking about adding your first fish...

Orchid Dottyback or P.fridmani. This is a stunning fish with a great disposition. Its colors are much more vibrant than the standard purple dottyback and without the attitude.
I have never had any trouble from mine.

Royal gramma, sixline, and clown goby would be a good choice. However you MUST add the sixline last, you'll regret it if you don't

+1 for the orchid dottyback. Never owned one but they're beautiful, peaceful little fish.

I'd go for a peaceful grouping of fish. Social harmony is more relaxing when watching a tank. I'll never buy a sixline wrasse again - mean little buggers with sharp teeth too. Every attack on a tankmate did some damage.

I have a 50 gallon with an azure damsel (same as yellow tail with more yellow on the belly), bangaii cardinal, and black ocellaris clownfish. They all get along wonderfully, especially the clown and cardinal who will at times swim so closely together that they're touching. I'm thinking about two more small fish and my potential choices would also do nicely in your 29 gallon:

- rainsford goby
- royal gramma
- orchid dottyback
- blackcap gramma
- fairy or flasher wrasses
- firefish goby
- chalk bass

I also have a Tailspot blenny in a 90 gallon, he is a surprisingly big swimmer.

The Midas blenny is definitely too big for your tank. There are other really cute blennie, but they don't swim as much as the Midas. The little clown gobies are cool. I also like Royal Grammas.

check out the tail spot blenny, they dont get as big and look nice. a royal gramma could work, they are very docile... sixlines are known to be pretty aggresive so if you do get it, get him last. I had some dottybacks and they are the devil . Also, someone suggested a clown goby, they are cool, get a pair they are fun, but dont get them if you have any sps, they will eat it all up lol

what about a royal gramma, tail spot blenny, neon goby and a pair of clown gobys.. you can fit a bunch of small fish in a 29 gal (I used to have a 29)

A couple Ideas:

Basslets: Chalk, Lantern, Swissguard
Dottybacks: Orchid, Fridmanni, Striped (Peferably ORA)
Cardinalfish: Threadfin/Blue-eye, Pajama, Bangaii, Gold-stripe
Damsels: Yellow-tail or Blue (two of the less agressive)
Gobies: quite a lot out there, shrimp gobies are quite fun

also,

Yellow/Blue Assessors (ORA has yellows)
Geometric Pygmy/Falco Hawk
Wrasse: Yellow 'coris', Flasher, Mystery, sixline, fourline (those last 3 get mean)
Blennies- most any, ORA has gramistes and fang blennies that are nice and better choices then the midas
Royal Gramma, Blackcap Gramma

and oh so much more...
