Explain Please????
I know metal halide, led, t5ho. My question is if i was to get a 250 watt sunpod with MH and blue/white lunars do I need actinic? I am confused on the whole actinic lighting. Is there a simple explanation...? I looking for 20" fro 34G tank.

It depends on what K bulb you go with, and personal preference on how blue you want it to look. I like my T5s to come on before and after my MH to simulate sunrise and sunset, I would guess the LEDs will accomplish the same thing.

The blue light isn't only for looks. All photosynthetic animals you have require blue spectrum light for photosynthesis as well. The higher the K rating the higher the blue spectrum of light that is produced. Most people use a combo of lower K ratings in MH because the intensity is needed particularly for SPS coral and suppliment with actinics of some kind to produce the blue. The two combined when done correctly balances and produces a more natural looking lite. Just high K lights will produce a blue tint only and won't look like natural sunlight.
