water flow..

my tank is 55 gallons i have about 80-85 pounds of LR. i have 2 Koralia Evolutions at 750 Gph flow rate at opposite sides of the tank. i want mostly fish, and some corals down the road if i can depending on the fish. So i was wondering if that will be too much water flow for my tank?. and also how should i position them, should it be facing toward rocks/wall or in open space water?
thanks for the help

Never too much flow really. I would position them one on each end of the tank, maybe point one up towards the surface to get some aggitation.

I have two mj1200 w/ the mod kit using the black impeller at either side of the tank, one pointing up towards the top getting some aggitation and the other pointing towards the center of the front glass and up just a little. A quiet one 4000 as my return pump, all my fish seem to love it and havent had any problems with my corals.

so its best to have one going towards the surface and the other facing rock/wall . ok i just thought the flow would be too strong for some of the fishes. dont want them getting blasted to the rocks when they pass by the koralia's

i run over 70x turn over in my 75 gal. for flow and the fish are fine, there is alot more flow in the ocean than we can really create in our aquariums.

as for postioning, that is up to your tank, you want surface movement for oxygen exchange, but you also don't want any dead spots in the tank. so you will have to mess around with positioning them in your tank till you get those things.

i'd definitely aim it towards the areas in the tank that's has less or no flow to move out any uneaten foods and stuff like that the more it stays in your tank the more likely your parameters are going to change for the worse and that's when unwanted things like hairline algae sets in.........................

that would really only be a concern with fish such as seahorses and maybe pipefish. For what you're probably looking at keeping, it's not an issue. I've run well over 50x turnover in my display without any concern.

ok thank you everyone for the replies.. i guess i was worried about the fish being uncomfortable but its true the ocean provides way more flow than i can in a aquarium so makes sense to be ok with a 25x flow turnover

Not to sidetrack but what if you have more delicate things like a frogspawn or featherdusters

Then you adjust your flow accordingly. And feather dusters may just move to where they want to be, plus frogspawn doesn't hate a decent flow rate.

I have a similar flow rate and it works well. As long as corals aren't directly in the direction of flow and are able to open up, you'll be fine.
