new 90 questions :D

hey rc

my tank has been up at running for close to a month. i have gone thru a huge diatom break out and now its completely gone. my skimmer is pulling out nasty brownish green gunk (cant see through it) and i have a fuge with chaeto that is growing great and in the bundle of chaeto is grape algae that has sky rocketed. Whats next? all my rocks are clear of brown algea and a little pit of purple and green is growing but no hair. Should i be expecting anything thats part of a brand new system or am i on the right track?

thanks guys

You will continue to have diatom break outs as the tanks continues to find it balance other than that you are right no track

I agree you are doing fine. The most important thing to remember is patience. Add livestock slowly and dont overfeed and you will be fine.

my clean up crew consists of about 5 turbos, 10-15 hermits some cerith and astrea snails. these guys did an amazing job at cleaning the tank. my sand looks like how it did a month ago when i bought it, bright white. i want to upgrade my lighting , i have a 4x54w t5 fixture from aqua traders but i want 6-8 bulb t5 or MH. next week is pay day so im gunn order about 40-50#s more of LR.

how much rock do you have now? you can also just add 'base rock', which is much cheaper than buying LR.
