Base rock question

I have a 75 gal tank.... If I put 60 lbs of base rock in there will it eventually turn into live rock? I am asking because I do not know how to take care of the live rock if there are special requirements as far as water quality goes....

As long as there's already some live sand in your tank it will become alive over time.

If your tank currently doesn't have the bacteria performing the nitrogen cycle duties - you'll need to add a handful of live sand or piece of live rock to kick start it though. Read up on the nitrogen cycle and live rock if you haven't already.

No special care needed for rocks.

the currently base rock will become live rock and it will actually become one of the key contributors to your water quality (meant to be a positive).

So if I had live rock in my tank then I would take care of it as if i were taking care of a fish only tank? I guess what I am asking is .... Would I have to add or moniter any other things such as iodine or calcium? I know that in reefs you have to put more work into it by making sure you are on top of more things. I just want to have a fish only job to do. I have heard of FOWLER so is a FOWLER's care any different from a FO tank?

if you add LR, there is nothing you extra you have to do. There is nothing additional until you start down the path of a reef tank.

I know that when purchasing live rock you have to cure it if it isn't already cured. If I put say 60 lbs of base with 10 live would I have to wait to put fish into my tank? I have heard that you shouldn't put fish into a tank with live rock that isn't cured? Soo... if my base rock was transitioning to live rock woudn't that same rule apply?

Yes, same rules apply. There is inevitably some organics deep in the rock that will have to cure. Base rock or live rock, you still need to cycle the tank.
