A few more "Can you identify this?"'s

Got a few more questions. My own fault on the first on, I just plain forgot after falling in love with it at the LFS...

#1 What is this beauty and where should it be placed in the tank?

#2 Yes, I know it's a mushroom... any idea what kind?

#3 The pinkish stuff in the background... is that Xenia? I received it as a bonus from a guy that I bought some pulsating xenia from? but this is MUCH smaller and not pulsating...?

#4 This little mushroom keeps disappearing on me and showing up down in this darker corner... is there a mushroom that prefers not as bright light as you might expect? Any idea what kind it is?

#5 Got this BEAUTIFUL piece at the LFS. They said it was a fancy type of mushrooom but I can't remember what kind? It's doing really well in it's location, almost tripling in size over the course of the day with the lights on. What exactly is this thing??

FWIW (and just to show off a tiny bit), here's my tank so far

That's it for now. Thanks!!!

Looks like some sort of Galaxia to me... give it plenty of light and a good flow and it will be happy.

Definatley a strain of Xenia. good flow and it will be happy.

#3 might be a heteroxenia because it might have this: "distinctive small secondary polyps between larger polyps called siphonozooids." I think I see that. It says it might pulse sometimes but doesn't mean it's sick if it doesn't.

#5 I think is ricordia looks similar to this http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...658&pcatid=658

I should have mentioned... #1 is hard. Very stiff with tiny tentacles that occasionally come out. I looked up images of Galaxia and that does not appear to be what this is.
Found images of Ricordia Mushroom - that is definately what #5 is. Thanks! Not that I'm ready for it yet, but can that be split like a regular shroom or will it self-divide? I have it kind of on tip of the end of a rock... should be on a flatter surface?

Don't Green Star Polyps (I do have the right acronym, don't I?) normally have skinny stem/stalks? The item in #1 has bases nearly 1/4" think and it's hard.

MY GSP (thats what it was sold to me as anyway) are on what looks like a rock that they've encrusted and when they close up the casing (I forget the terminology) is hard.

edit: took a closer look and the base looks nothing like mine.

#1 definitely Galaxea sp.
Google Images Galaxea and you'll see some pictures that are nearly identical to yours.
They throw long sweeper tentacles when hungry or seeking to expand to new territory. Mine reach upwards of four inches from the colony. Grow well under good lighting, routine water changes, etc. It is a stony coral, so you'll want to do some research into the requirements of maintaining stonies in your aquarium.
A real good habit to get into is to research before purchase - it saves a lot of heartache.
Cheers,
Ray

You're right. I misspelled it earlier (Galaxia) and the pictures that came up with that were VERY different then mine. When I spelled it right, the pictures are spot on. Thanks!

My logical side says, "I KNOW!", but my emotional side thought it looked sooooo cool I just couldn't help myself.

I promise to be better in the future... unless it's a REALLY good sale
